PURPOSE: To inexpensively produce a halofluoro compound useful as a precursor of fluoroalkene in good position selectivity by treating an alkene with a dihydrogenated trifluorinated quaternary ammonium together with a halonium ion generating agent.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula II (R1 to R4 are H, alkyl or aryl) is treated with a compound (e.g. dihydrotrifluorotetramethylammonium) shown by formula I (Ra to Rd are alkyl) together with a halonium ion generating agent (e.g. N-bromosuccinimide) to produce a compound shown by formula III (X is I or Br). The amount of the compound shown by formula I and that of the halonium ion generating agent used are preferably 1-3 equivalent and the reaction temperature is suitably 0-25°C. The reaction may be carried out in a solvent such as hexane, benzene, THF, etc. Haloflurinattion of an alkene having a functional group weak to an acid is also advanced without problems.
