PURPOSE: To selectively and simply obtain the subject compd. useful as a precursor of a miticidal effective substance in high yield by reacting an halogen or a specific halogenating agent with a specific starting compd.

CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I [wherein X is O or S, Y is CH or N, R1 is H or a 1-4C alkyl, R2 is H or F, R3 is H or Cl and aryl is represented by formulae II, III (wherein R4 and R5 are each H or a 1-5C alkoxy and (m), (n) and (o) are each 0-2)] is reacted with a halogen or a halogen compd. represented by the formula Halp-Zq (Hal is F or Cl, Z is F or Br and (p) and (q) are each 1-5) to obtain the objective compd. represented by formula IV. The reaction is pref. performed in a non-polar or weak polar aprotic solvent such as benzene at -78 to 80°C.
