PURPOSE: To produce a herbicide-resistant gene in high efficiency, by selecting a herbicide-resistant procaryote, extracting a specific DNA molecule from the procaryote and getting a gene converted from herbicide-sensitive to herbicide- resistant.
CONSTITUTION: A herbicide-sensitive gene originated from a procaryote is subjected to genetic cloning using a procaryote as a host and a recombinant DNA molecule integrated with the herbicide-sensitive gene is obtained from the produced clone. The DNA molecule is integrated into a herbicide-sensitive procaryote and the procaryote is treated with a mutagen to convert the herbicide-sensitive procaryote to herbicide-resistant procaryote. A herbicide- resistant procaryote is selected from the product and the DNA molecule integrated into the procaryote is extracted from the herbicide-resistant procaryote to obtain a gene converted from herbicide-sensitive to herbicide-resistant.
