To provide a method for producing a high bulk density granular detergent composition from a detergent slurry having good compatibility when sprayed and dried.

This method for producing a detergent composition having a bulk density of ≥0.6 g/cc comprises granulating a detergent slurry containing (a) 5 to 40 wt.% of an anionic surfactant, (b) 1 to 15 wt.% of a soap, (c) 1 to 20 wt.% of an aminocarboxylic acid derivative type chelating agent having three or more carboxyl groups in the molecule, and (d) 10 to 40 wt.% of a water-soluble alkaline inorganic salt by a method containing a spray-drying process. Therein, the detergent slurry is prepared by adding the component (b), or the component (b) land the component (d), and then adding the component (c).
