PURPOSE: To work powder of high m.p. metal to prescribed thickness in good yields by molding said powder to a prescribed shape under pressure, sintering the molding to a sintered body, and melting the end face thereof then hot working the sintered body.
CONSTITUTION: For example, MO powder of a high m.p. is molded under pressure to a molding of a prescribed shape, and the molding is put in a sintering furnace and is sintered at high temp., whereby a sintered body is obtained. An electron beam 4 is irradiated to both end faces in the short side directions of the sintered body in a prescribed welding device. More specifically, while the beam 4 is rotated, the beam is irradiated to the end faces to melt the parts down to about 3cm depth from the surface uniformly. If the sintered body is hot rolled with rolls thereafter, no cracks are generated because the end faces are melted and fraction defectives are made nearly zero.
