Title:
PRODUCTION OF HIGH-STRENGTH CARBON FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5530472
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: An additional step of heat drawing of acrylonitrile fibers under specific conditions is combined, thus producing efficiently and stably carbon fibers of higher strength.

CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile fibers are drawn 1.05W1.5 times at 180W300°C under an inert atmosphere and the molecular chains are highly oriented. Then, the fibers are heat treated at 200W300°C under an oxidative atmosphere with loading a tension so as to prevent the excess disturbance of the molecular chains and cause less than 10% shrinkage. Finally, the fibers are carbonized in a nonoxidative atmosphere to give carbon fibers of high orientation, tensile strength and elasticity.
