Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing highly pure erythritol crystals, comprising processes successively containing a cell-separating process, a chromatographic separation process and a crystallization process and sufficiently improved so that solid impurities can efficiently and highly be removed in the cell-separating process.
SOLUTION: This method for producing highly pure erythritol crystals comprises separating and purifying the crystals in processes successively containing at least a cell-separating process for separating cells from an erythritol-containing culture solution as a law material solution, a chromatographic separation process for chromatographically separating a clear solution recovered from the cell-separating process, and a crystallization process for crystallizing an erythritol fraction recovered from the chromatographic separation process to deposit the erythritol crystals. Therein, in the cell- separating process, a cross flow filtration method with a ceramic membrane or an organic membrane is employed, and the temperature of the solution to be treated is maintained at a temperature of 50-90°C.
