Title:
PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY SYNDIOTACTIC POLYVINYL ALCOHOL POLYMER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0559115
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer useful for high-tenacity fiber, etc., in high efficiency by polymerizing a specific vinyl ester under ultraviolet irradiation in the presence of a specific acyl phosphonate compound as a photo-polymerization initiator and saponifying the obtained polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer composed of the vinyl alcohol unit of formula III and the vinyl ester unit of formula IV and having a syndiotacticity of >=55%, preferably >=65% (in terms of diad notation) is produced by saponifying a polymer obtained by (co)polymerizing a vinyl ester of formula II (R4 is H or hydrocarbon group; R5 and R6 are hydrocarbon group) under ultraviolet irradiation in the presence of an acyl phosphonate compound of formula I (R1 is alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, dialkylamino, etc.; R2 and R3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; R2 and R3 may together form a ring) (e.g. pivaloyl dimethyl phosphonate) as a photo-polymerization initiator.
