The production history management system comprises an imaging means 7 for taking an image including an administration number written on a manufactured product 1 and uniquely specifies the product, an image memory 9 for storing the photographed image, a database 10 for previously storing pattern data with a plurality of rotation angles for every character to be recognized, a database 16 for storing the administration number which can uniquely specify the product to be produced, a means for recognizing the administration number by executing character recognition of the image data of character cut out from the image stored in the image memory while referring to pattern data of characters stored in the database, and a means for confirming that the product is manufactured by comparing the administration number obtained from character recognition with the administration number stored in the database.
