Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the aimed hyaluronic acid, useful as a raw material for cosmetics and medicines and having a high molecular weight in high yield and production rate at a low cost, by cultivating a specific bacterium in a culture medium.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium, having the ability to produce hyaluronic acid and belonging to the genus Streptococcus incapable of producing hyaluronidase is cultivated in a culture medium to afford the aimed hyaluronic acid from the resultant culture. Furthermore, Streptococcus.zooepidemicus YIT 2041 (FERM-P No.9556) is preferably used as the above-mentioned bacterium.
