Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a ≥2C hydrocarbon such as ethylene or ethane in high yield by bringing methane into contact with a specific catalyst having high activity and selectivity and sufficiently improved in life, in the presence of oxygen.
CONSTITUTION: Methane is subjected to coupling reaction in the presence of oxygen using a catalyst obtained by loading lithium oxide and tin oxide on a calcium oxide support, at 500-1000°C under ordinary pressure to 100 kg/cm2G to provide the objective product. Methane and oxygen are used at a molar ratio of (CH4/O2) of 0.1-10. The composition of the catalyst consists preferably of 1-49 wt.% SnO2, 1-49wt.% Li2O and 2-98wt.% CaO.
