Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the title catalyst of high activity by supporting a VIII group metal on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with specified characteristic values obtd. by molding liquid lubricant-contg. PTFE into a tubular shape followed by drawing and cutting.

CONSTITUTION: Liquid lubricant-contg. PTFE is extrusion molded into a tubular shape. After removing the lubricant the molding is drawn at below the m.p. of PTFE, heated to above the m.p. of PTFE while being fixed to prevent shrinkage, and then cut to a suitable length. 0.05W5% of a VIII group metal, esp. Pt is supported on the resulting tubular PTFE support with an average pore diameter of 0.5W2μ and a porosity of 50W90%. By this method the support wt. per unit vol. can be reduced, the surface area is increased, and gas press. loss can be lowered.
