PURPOSE: To obtain a reinforced thermoplastic molding material excellent in tensile strength while reducing the energy cost by producing the same from a thermoplastic, fibers, and a rubber under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: This material (100 pts.wt.) comprises 30-93 pts.wt. at least one thermoplastic (A) selected from among polyamides, polyesters, polycarbonates, and polyphenylene ethers (e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide), 5-50 pts.wt. fibers (B) (e.g. glass fibers), and 2-20 pts.wt. at least one impact-modifying rubber (C) (e.g. a maleic-anhydride-grafted ethylene-propylene rubber) and is produced by a process wherein ingredient B is introduced into the melt of ingredient A; ingredients A and B are mixed; ingredient C in the form of a melt is introduced into the resultant mixture; and the resultant compsn. is extruded and granulated. In the above process, the reaction is carried out in one step at 250-300°C.
