PURPOSE: To make possible the mass production of a recording medium having stable quality with good reproducibility by using the glass formed by a horizontal plate pulling method in which a bending roll is used as a glass substrate and providing a recording layer to the surface in contact with the roll.
CONSTITUTION: The glass produced by the horizontal plate pulling method in which the bending roll 33 is used is used for the glass substrate 11 of the recording medium 10. More specifically, fused glass 32 contained in a heat- resistant vessel 31 is once perpendicularly pulled up and is then bent 90° by the roll 33 and pulled horizontally, by which the glass plate is produced. The recording layer 12 is formed on the surface of the glass plate on the side contacting with the roll 33. The surface on the side in contact with the roll 3 has small ruggedness and high smoothness in the above-mentioned manner and therefore the mass production of the recording medium having the stable quality with the good reproducibility is made possible.
