Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic material having high toughness and high strength by applying a sintering assistant on the surface of ceramic particles, then applying a ceramic source material thereon, and further coating the particles with a ceramic material, compacting and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: A sintering assistant 2 is applied on the surface of a ceramic particle 1 as the core, on which a ceramic source material 3 of the same material as the core ceramic particle is applied. Further, ceramic particles are deposited on the surface of the core ceramic particle in order to control the interface, or a ceramic source material 4 to control the interface is applied on the core ceramic particle. These particles are compacted and sintered to obtain the objective interface-controlled ceramic material. In this production method, the ceramic material after sintered is preferably subjected to the heat treatment to make solid soln. or to precipitate. As for the ceramic material, silicon nitride or silicon carbide can be used. The process for depositing ceramic particles to control the interface may be performed by using aggregation of a solid powder.
