Abstract:
PURPOSE: To relieve high internal energy accumulated in stock for an intermetallic compd. and to prevent the occurrence of cracks during cooling to ordinary temp. when the objective intermetallic compd. having a microstructure is produced by rotation, stirring and solidification.
CONSTITUTION: Stock for an intermetallic compd. is subjected to high-frequency melting in a high-frequency furnace 9 in an inert atmosphere and the resultant melt is transferred to a thermostat 8 in the same atmosphere. Crystals of the melt are crushed by rotating and stirring the melt during solidification with a stirrer embedded in the melt to form a microstructure having homogeneous fine grains. After stirring for a certain time, the stock having the microstructure is returned to the furnace 9 and subjected again to high-frequency heating so as to relieve high stress produced in the stock.
