PURPOSE: To obtain the subject macro-porous resin by polymerizing a vinyl monomer with a vinyl group-containing compound under a specific pressure in a closed system, in the presence of a pore-forming agent and a catalyst in a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer is obtained by polymerizing (A) 40-99 vol.% of a vinyl monomer (e.g. styrene) with (B) 1-60 vol.% of a compound (e.g. divinylbenzene) as a crosslinking agent having at least one vinyl group in a closed system pressurized to 0.1-15 bars, preferably 2-6 bars with an inert gas (e.g. N2), in the presence of (C) 5-150 vol.% of a pore-forming agent (e.g. isooctane), (D) 1-3 wt.% of a catalyst (e.g. dibenzoyl peroxide) and, if necessary, (E) a stabilizer (e.g. starch), (F) at 70-90°C for 3-5 hours in a solvent, then polymerizing for about 2 hours at 90-97°C, and eliminating the components C and F by distillation or extraction after the completion of polymerization. The polymer is converted to an ion-exchange resin by sulfonation, chloromethylation, amination or hydrolysis.
