Title:
PRODUCTION OF IRON CARBIDE FINE PARTICLES
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01192713
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title fine particles excellent in magnetic properties, free from crumbling of the sintered form therefrom, by coating, in two steps, iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide fine particles with each specific metal compounds followed by contact of the resulting coated particles with carbon- contg. reductive carbonizing agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective iron carbide fine particles can be obtained by the following two steps a and b. (a) Iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide fine particles is coated with at least one metal compound selected from nickel compounds, copper compounds and manganese compound followed by further coating thereon with at least one compounds selected from silicon compounds and aluminum compounds. Thence, the resultant coated fine particles is brought into contact (or no contact) with a carbon-free reducing agent followed by (b) further contact with a carbon-contg. reducive carbonizing agent or its mixture with a carbon-free reducing agent. Preferably, the contact temperature in the step a is ca. 200-700 deg.C, whereas that temperature in the step b ca. 250-400 deg.C. The amounts of the compounds coated in the step a are, respectively, pref. 0.01-10wt.% or lower when converted to the amount of element, based on the weight converted to Fe2O3 in the iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide.
