PURPOSE: To produce an Fe-Ni-Co-base alloy with very low S, O, and N contents by subjecting a molten Fe-Ni-Co alloy to deoxidation, desulfurization, and denitriding by the use of Al, Ti, etc., in a vessel composed of a refractory containing MgO and CaO.
CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy composed essentially of Fe, Ni, and Co is charged to a vessel, such as crucible, composed of a basic refractory containing, by weight, 15-75% MgO and 15-85% CaO. Subsequently, a first additive agent consisting of Al or Al alloy, a second additive agent consisting of Ti, Zr, Nb, or rare earth element, and further, if necessary, ≤5% flux containing the oxides, halides, silicates, and carbonates of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals, Al oxide, etc., are added to the above alloy. Then, this molten alloy is subjected to deoxidation, desulfurization, and denitriding under a nonoxidizing atmosphere or in vacuum, by which the molten alloy containing 0.005-7.0% residual Al, 0.0001-0.005% residual Ca, and 0.0001-0.03% residual Mg is obtained. This molten alloy is ingoted, by which the Fe-Ni-Co-base alloy having extremely reduced O, S, and N contents as low as ≤0.003%, ≤0.010%, and ≤0.03%, respectively, can be obtained.
