Abstract:

To obtain isocyanate showing light color that is useful for production of polyurethane by reaction of phosgene with a specifically treated amine.

An amine as a raw material is treated with an inorganic solid substance that has the Lewis acid and/or Broensted acid centers (points) and the treated amine is allowed to react with phosgene to produce an isocyanate showing light color. This inorganic solid substance is, for example, an artificially modified natural or synthetic oxide and/or silicate salt, particularly aluminum silicate is preferred. The amine is preferably diphenylmethyldiamine and its higher homologues. The amine is preferably treated at 10-50°C under 0.1-10 bar.
