Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain isopropyl alcohol with a small amount of energy by a few facilities in a high conversion ratio by successively feeding propylene and water to a reactor packed with a catalyst, reacting them, recovering and circulating propylene from a vapor phase of the reaction product, extracting a liquid phase of the reaction product and purifying the extracted solution.
CONSTITUTION: Propylene (A) and water in an amount of 1mol or more based on 1mol of propylene (A) are continuously supplied to a reactor packed with a strongly acidic catalyst, directly hydrated and reacted at 10-250°C under 60-200 atmospheric pressure, the whole amounts of the vapor phase and the liquid phase of the reaction mixture are taken out from the reactor, the vapor is distilled to recover propylene (A) and circulated to the reactor and the liquid phase is brought into contact with a 3-4C saturated hydrocarbon extractant (B) in the ratio of the extractant (B) to a raw material to be extracted of 1:(0.3-3) at the critical temperature of the component B to that +40°C under the critical pressure of the component B to 200 atmospheric pressure to extract isopropyl alcohol (C). The residual solution mainly consisting of water is circulated through the reactor and a highly concentrated aqueous solution of the component C is separated from the extracted phase mainly consisting of the component B and purified to give isopropyl alcohol (component C).
