PURPOSE: To obtain the titled isotropic carbon material having low thermal expansion, by blending carbon powder and carbon granule which are separately blended with a binder under heating, cooling and solidifying the blend, grinding and calcining or graphitizing.
CONSTITUTION: 50W80pts.wt. carbon powder having ≤300μm particle diameter and 50W20pts.wt. carbon granule having 0.3W0.5mm particle diameter, which are separately blended with a binder (e.g., phenolic resin), are blended under heating to give a paste, which is cooled and solidified to give a solidified paste. Then, the solidified paste is ground into powder or granule having the same size as that of the powder or the granule in the paste or powder or granule having larger size than that of the powder or the granule, molded by rubber press method and calcined or graphitized.
