PURPOSE: To obtain a ketone-aldehyde-(amine-urea) resin which is useful for a paper-coating compsn. excellent in white-paper gloss, smoothness, ink-accepting capability, and water resistance by reacting a specific ketone and an aldehyde with an amine-urea resin.
CONSTITUTION: This resin is obtd. by reacting a ketone having at least two α-hydrogen atoms (e.g. acetone, acetophenone, or cyclohexanone) and an aldehyde (e.g. formaldehyde or gloyxal) with an amine-urea resin obtd. by reacting an amine (e.g. polyethyleneepolyamine, diethylenetriamine, or cyclohexylamine) with a urea compd. (e.g. urea or thiourea). The amine is pref. a polyalkylenepolyamine or its mixture with an alicyclic amine. The ketone is pref. acetone or its mixture with another ketone having at least two α-hydrogen atoms.
