Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the mass production of laminar rock salt type LiMnO2 by way of the single stage by subjecting at least one kind of manganese source starting material to a hydrothermal treatment in an aq. soln. containing water soluble lithium salt and alkali metal hydroxide at a specified temp.
SOLUTION: Oxide (e.g.: Mn2O3, MnO and MnO2), oxide hydrate, oxidized hydroxide, etc., are exemplified as the manganese source starting material, and the tervalent compd. is preferable. Lithium hydroxide, lithium chloride, lithium nitrate, etc., are exemplified as the water soluble lithium salt. Potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, etc., are exemplified as the alkali metal hydroxide the mixed alkali aq. soln. consists of 0.05-5 mol./kg.H2O water soluble lithium salt and 8-20 mol./kg.H2O alkali metal hydroxide. The manganese source starting material 0.1-10 g is added to 100 cc aq. soln., and the obtained mixture is allowed to stand in a hydrothermal reaction furnace (e.g.; autoclave) and allowed to react at 130-300°C for 0.5 hr-14 day.
