Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal polymer easily at a low cost by reacting a specified oligodiol G with a specified oligodiol H, a terephthaloyl halide and an (iso)phthaloyl halide. CONSTITUTION:p-Hydroxybenzoic acid (i) is condensed with a diol (ii) by heating to the final reaction temperature of 200-250 deg.C in the presence of an esterification catalyst to obtain a mixture of an oligodiol G of formula I [wherein R7 is a 2-12C diol residue (including optical isomers)] with 0-90mol% oligodiol H of formula II (wherein R8 is R7). This mixture is reacted with a terephthaloyl halide and an isophthaloyl halide and/or a phthaloyl halide to obtain the title polymer containing structural units of formula III and optionally at least one kind of structural units selected from among those of formulas IV-VIII.
