Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystalline polyester excellent in strengths, heat resistance, etc., with a good workability by using a 4-hydroxy-(2-hydroxyethyl) benzoate, a specific arom. diol, etc., as the raw materials.
CONSTITUTION: 4-Hydroxy-(2-hydroxyethyl)benzoate, terephthalic acid and/or 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, an arom. diol compd. of formula I and/or an arom. diacetate compd. of formula II, p-hydroxybenzoic zcid and/or p- acetoxybenzoic acid, and acetic anhydride are reacted and then polycondensed in a molten state to give a liq. crystalline polyester comprising dicarboxylic acid units of formula II and/or formula IV, ethylene glycol units of formula V, arom. diol units of formula VI (wherein m is 1-4; and n is 0-2), and p- oxybenzoic acid units of formula VII.
