Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain an LiNbO3 single crystal having low defect density and uniform optical characteristics and usable as a superior nonlinear optical crystal by regulating the comps. of a melt so that an excess Li component is contained in a specified mol fraction. CONSTITUTION:When an LiNbO3 single crystal is grown from molten LiNbO3 by a pulling method, the Bridgman method, a zone melting method, a floating zone method or other method, the compsn. of the melt is regulated so that an excess Li component is contained in 0.53-0.62, preferably about 0.55-0.60mol fraction of Li2O/(Li2O+Nb2O3). The crystal is grown at 0.1-15, preferably 0.5-4.0mm/hr growth rate.
