Title:
PRODUCTION OF LOW-CARBON KILLED STEEL BY CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57199548
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce low-carbon killed steel of less inclusions and particularly high subcutaneous flaw reducing effect by cleaning molten steel contg. C at a prescribed value or below then supplying the same together with a flux into a mold for casting and drawing it out continuously at specific drawing speeds under electromagnetic induction agitation.

CONSTITUTION: The molten steel contg. ≤0.25% C is tapped into a ladle, and is cleaned, after which this molten steel is thoroughly sealed by Ar between the ladle and a tundish and a mold, whereby it is held in an oxidation-free state. Said molten steel which is prevented of the formation of inclusions during casting by the oxidation-free state is supplied continuously through an immersion nozzle into the mold and a flux is charged thereto. While the molten steel in this state is electromagnetically agitated by the magnetic field induced by the AC applied from an electromagnetic coil provided on the mold walls, it is drawn out continuously downward at 0.7W3.0m/sec drawing speeds and is solidified. The frequency of the AC in this case is f=1.5W10.0Hz, and the magnetic flux density G is in the range shown by the equation.
