Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a organo(poly)siloxane useful for contact lenses, etc., by reacting a specific ratio of lithium silanolate with tetrasiloxane. is the absence of water.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of bringing (A) (i) cyclic diorganopolysilane and (ii) lithium silanolate into reaction at a temp. lower than 50°C in (iii) a neutral solvent which releases electrons, the tetrasiloxane is used for the component (i) and the reaction of both components is effected under the shielding of the water at a molar ratio of the component (ii) to the component i of 1:0.9 to 1:1.1 and the resulted lithium silanolate and (B) organohalogensilane are brought into reaction to obtain the objective siloxane which is straight chain form and monofunctional or difunctional value and in which, if difunctional, the two functionalities are present in siloxane units which are chemically different from each other. The component (i) is preferably an octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and the component ii the compd. of the formula, respectively.
