PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic disc having a magnetic layer of a high square ratio by forming orientation magnetic fields by the process of applying DC magnetic fields and the process of applying AC magnetic fields.
CONSTITUTION: An AC magnetic field applicator 3 is so constituted as to apply AC magnetic fields in the circumferential direction of a disc substrate 1 and the magnetic flux is formed toward the circumferential direction within the disc substrate face. Two pairs of DC magnetic field applicators 4 are provided in a radial direction on the opposite side of the AC magnetic field applicator 3 with respect to the axis of the substrate 1 and one pair out of these DC applicators 4 are pvovided parallel in proximity to the top face of the substrate. The magnetic poles thereof are so disposed that the N pole then S pole position in the rotating direction of the substrate 1. Other one pair are similarly provided on the bottom face of the substrate 1. With this DC applicators 4, the magnetic fluxes are within the substrate faces and go toward the disc circumferential direction. Thereby the degree of orientation may be increased.
