PURPOSE: To make improvement in quality and productivity by applying respec tively independent loads on plural magnetic head sliders and simultaneously lapping the holders.
CONSTITUTION: A holder 11 for polishing having plural vertically penetrated holes 14 to allow the housing of the magnetic head sliders 13 is prepd. This holder 11 is imposed on a lapping surface plate 10 and the magnetic head sliders 13 are housed in the respective holes 14 of the holder 11 for polishing in such a manner that the recording medium-facing surfaces 13a thereof come into contact with the lapping surface plate 10. While the respectively independent loads are applied on the respective magnetic head sliders 13, the holder 11 for polishing is slid to lap the recording medium-facing surfaces 13a. The loads corresponding to the strains on floating rail surfaces can be applied to the respective magnetic head sliders 13 in this way; therefore, the lapping quality improves and since the simultaneous lapping of the many magnetic head sliders is possible, the working efficiency is improved.
