PURPOSE: To produce the titled medium having excellent corrosion resistance by forming a plasma-polymerized protective film layer consisting of an org. compd. contg. a metal on the magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic layer 8 consisting of a metallic magnetic material is formed on a substrate 1 as a recording element, then the layer 8 is exposed to a gaseous mixture of an org. compd. and a metal carbonyl compd. and plasma polymerization is carried out to form a plasma-polymerized protective film layer 9 contg. a metal on the magnetic layer 8. When the magnetic layer 8 is exposed to the gaseous mixture of an org. compd. and a metal carbonyl compd. and plasma polymerization is carried out, the plasma-polymerized protective film layer 9 having high cross-linking density is formed by the combination of the metal and other atoms. Besides, the adhesiveness with the magnetic layer 8 is improved by the metal contained in the plasma-polymerized film 9.
