PURPOSE: To improve a product yield by connecting an electrically chargeable leader film to the front of a substrate raw film, loading the wound substrate raw film with the chargeable leader film on a delivery roll of a vacuum film forming device and running the chargeable leader film before formation of a magnetic film on the substrate thereby removing the foreign matter sticking to a conveying mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: The chargeable leader film 8 is connected to the front of the substrate raw film 9 and is wound to a suitable length then the wound film is loaded on the delivery roll 2 before the substrate film is loaded on the roll 2. The inside of the vacuum film forming chamber 1 is then evacuated to a reduced pressure and after conditions are adjusted to stipulated conditions, the conveying mechanism is actuated to wound the film 8 on a take-up roll 5 via a guide roll 3a, a can 4 and a guide roll 3b. The foreign matter sticking to the conveying mechanism is stuck to the film 8 and is removed by such pretreatment and thereafter, the thin magnetic film is formed on the base body 9. A magnetic recording medium having good product quality and product yield is thereby obtd.
