Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a master cylinder having good surface roughness and excellent wear resistance by forming a cylindrical fiber molding consisting of alumina-silica fibers by vacuum suction.

CONSTITUTION: The alumina-silica fibers 2a, 2b having ≤10μm size and 50W150μm length are formed by vacuum suction to the cylindrical fiber molding 1 having 3W6mm thickness. The cylinder 1 is held together with a core 4 in a metallic mold and is subjected to casting by die casting in conjuction with squeeze pressurization at the filling speed changed over from a low to a high speed after at least ≥50% filling. An aluminum alloy which is a matrix is penetrated into the fiber molding to form the fiber reinforced metal. The inside diameter thereof is worked smoothly to a specular surface. The master cylinder consisting of the fiber reinforced metal is thus obtd.
