Abstract:

To obtain a new bacterium comprising a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas capable of assimilating an organic substance and producing menthanol, useful for decomposing and removing an offensive odor derived from an organic substance, deodorizing an offensive odor of an organic substance, producing menthanol, etc.

This bacterium is a new strain [e.g. Pseudomonas SP.46 strain (FERM P-17, 213), etc.], belonging to the genus Pseudomonas capable of assimilating and producing menthanol and is useful as an inexpensive method for producing menthanol and a method for deodorizing an offensive odor derived from an organic substance in a refuse disposal place, etc. The bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas is separated from water in a bathtub as a separation source and obtained by a method in which water in a bathtub is applied to a medium, cultured at 30°C for 24 hours, a grown bacterium is separated, fluorescence is confirmed by culturing the separated bacterium at 30°C for 24 hours on a Pseudomonas agar medium for fluorescein detection and the fact that the bacterium belongs to Pseudomonas is confirmed by the fluorescence.
