Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent precipitation and segregation while uniformly dispersing the grains in a matrix by adding a second phase grains into a first phase matrix composed of metal or alloy and executing electromagnetic stirring while impressing ultrasonic vibration to molten metal.
SOLUTION: In this apparatus, the vibration generated with the ultrasonic vibration element 1 is transmitted to the molten metal 6 in a crucible 5 through a ultrasonic horn 2. An electromagnetic stirring device containing an electromagnetic coil 3 surrounding the crucible 5, is arranged. Rotating movement is given to the molten metal 6 by the electromagnetic stirring. The second phase grains (e.g. reinforced grains, such as ceramic grains) are supplied on the molten metal 6 after passing a preheating furnace with carrier gas. Then, while impressing the ultrasonic vibration to the molten metal or alloy 6 added by the second phase grains with an ultrasonic vibrator 1 and the ultrasonic horn 2, the electromagnetic stirring is executed by using the electromagnetic coil 3. By this method, the metal base composite material can be produced by casting method.
