PURPOSE: To produce a metal powder narrow in particle diameter distribution and having an objective particle size at high yield by forming a liquid film of a dispersion medium flowing on the surface of a high speed rotating disk and supplying a molten metal thereto, quenching and solidifying.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid film 4 of water flowing on the surface of a high speed rotating disk 1 is formed by supplying water 3 as the dispersion medium on the surface of the disk. The molten metal 2 such as Al in a crucible 7 is supplied to the liquid film 4 from a bottom nozzle 8 of the crucible and is recovered as the metal powder 9 decreased in variation of the particle diameter and having the objective particle size at high yield by quenching and solidifying. In this case, the particle diameter and particle shape of the resultant metal powder is capable of adjusting by controlling the super heat temp. of the molten metal 2 and the interval H from the tip of the nozzle 8 to the disk 1.
