PURPOSE: To readily obtain the subject compound, useful as a synthetic intermediate such as functional coloring matters, etc., and having various substituent groups at the p-position with respect to the nitroso group and the m-position with respect to the hydroxy group according to a specific method.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic complex of an o-hydroxynitroso aromatic compound expressed by formula I [R1 is hydroxy, amino, etc.; (n) is 0-3; the α-rind is 1-18C rind, provided that the absence of the α-ring is also included] is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula HX (X is amino, 1-20C alkylthione, etc.), preferably at 20-150°C for 0.1-48hr to afford the objective compound expressed by formula II. In the reaction, a basic compound such as triethylamine is preferably made to coexist to smoothly advance the reaction. Thereby, e.g. copper (II) complex of 1-nitroso-2-naphthol is cited as the complex of the aforementioned compound expressed by formula I. For example, piperidine is cited as the compound expressed by formula HX.
