PURPOSE: To produce a metallic composite material impregnated uniformly with long fibers in a matrix metal by combining many metallic pipes into which reinforcing materials of inorg. fibers are inserted into a prescribed shape, putting the assembly into a casting mold, and charging the molten metal of the same quality as the quality of the above-mentioned metallic pipes.
CONSTITUTION: Plural pieces of inorg. long fibers 3 having high strength such as SiC are put into a metallic pipe 2 such as an Al pipe. A large number of such pipes 2 are combined and are welded or worked to form a formed assembly 4 of a prescribed shape. The assembly 4 is disposed in a casting mold 5, and the melt of Al having the same quality as the quality of the pipes 2 is charged into the mold 5. The pipes 2 are melted by the heat of the molten metal and are fused together with the molten Al matrix charged into the mold. A metallic composite material impregnated linearly and uniformly with the long fibers 3 of SiC is obtd.
