PURPOSE: To obtain a methacrylic ester polymer continuously and advantageously from the viewpoint of energy consumption as compared with conventional processes.
CONSTITUTION: A process for producing a methacrylic ester polymer by a high- velocity living polymerization in which the conversion of monomer reaches 90% or higher within 1 min, wherein a monomer, a solvent, an initiator and a catalyst are grouped into two liquids in such a combination as to prevent polymerization, the liquids are passed without contact with each other through the inner path and the outer path respectively of a double-walled flow channel in the form of concentric circles and continuously supplied to a nozzle at the outlet where they collide with each other and are mixed, and polymerization is allowed to proceed in an inert gas atmosphere provided below the nozzle.
