PURPOSE: To obtain the titled colorless and high-purity compound, by sulfonating isobutylene with sulfur trioxide dimethylacetamide complex in dichloromethane solvent, distilling away the above-mentioned solvent, neutralizing the residue and crystallizing the resultant slurry.
CONSTITUTION: Isobutylene is reacted with sulfur trioxide dimethylacetamide complex in dichloromethane solvent and the above-mentioned solvent is then distilled from the reaction mixture. The resultant mixture is neutralized with an aqueous solution of an alkali to prepare a dimethylacetamide water mixture slurry containing ≥25wt% titled compound. The above-mentioned mixed slurry is simultaneously heated at 40W120°C temperature to dissolve the titled compound. The formed solution is then cooled to crystallize the titled compound. Thereby side reaction is suppressed and formation of by-products having similar solubility is minimized to readily obtain the titled compound of high purity (≥99.9%) useful as a dyeing modifier for acrylic fibers.
