Abstract:

To provide a method for producing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid at high purity in a high yield.

The production method of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural comprises a step of oxidizing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural in an alkaline aqueous solution containing at least 1.0 mol and at most 10 mol of a caustic alkali relative to 1 mol of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to form 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and an intermediate thereof and a step of adding a chlorine-containing oxidizing agent to the aqueous solution after oxidization in an amount of at least 0.5 mol and at most 10.0 mol relative to 1 mol of the intermediate remaining in the aqueous solution to oxidize the intermediate to form 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid.
