To provide a method for easily producing octahedral titanium oxide fine particles in a monodispersed state with a high reproducibility and in a high yield.
Fibrous titanic acid or fibrous titanium oxide, which is used as a raw material, and pure water are introduced into a pressure-resistant container and subjected to a hydrothermal treatment at 140-190C for 12-48 hr. After the hydrothermal treatment, the titanium oxide fine particles produced from a mixture in the pressure-resistant container through the hydrothermal treatment are recovered by centrifugal separation etc. The recovered titanium oxide fine particles are anatase octahedral titanium oxide fine particles with a high crystallinity and a large specific surface area and are suitable as a material for a photocatalyst.
