To provide a production technology of monosaccharide in which solid acid catalyst reaction can be efficiently executed using a column from a woody material, and to accelerate production of biomass ethanol and other useful substances.
A partial hydrolysate of cellulose or hemicellulose is subjected to saccharification by hydrolysis using a solid acid catalyst. Hydrolysis is progressed by a process in which the partial hydrolysate is performed by agitation mixing with the solid acid catalyst, and a process in which a product material of the process is made to pass a column filling the solid acid catalyst. The column performs a roll for a filter device. A pressure hot water is acted on biomass to selectively hydrolyze hemicellulose, a solid residue after reaction is acted by amylase, thereby partial hydrolysates of hemicellulose and cellulose are obtained respectively, xylose and glucose are obtained by each saccharification. Ethanol is obtained by microbial fermentation of monosaccharide, and is used for production of furfural and plastic.
