Abstract:

To provide a production method for an aromatic-containing cycloolefin copolymer having excellent characteristics of an optical material, such as heat resistance, impact resistance, thermal aging resistance and transparency together with a high glass transition point; to provide the copolymer produced thereby; and to provide an optical material and an electric/electronic material.

The production method for the aromatic-containing cycloolefin copolymer is characterized by the followings: an α-olefin and an aromatic-containing cycloolefin expressed by formula [1] are copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metallocene compound expressed by the formula [2]: H2C(R'mCp)(R''nCp)MX2, an aluminoxane and an optional organoaluminum compound, yielding the aromatic-containing cycloolefin copolymer having a repeating unit expressed by formula [3].
