PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of producing a sugar solution more efficiently than a cellulose biomass by accelerating the decomposition/saccharification of the cellulose biomass.SOLUTION: A method for producing a sugar solution from a cellulose biomass comprises (1) treating a biomass having a starch content of less than 2% by weight with alkali, and (2) adding cellulase and amyloglucosidase into the biomass treated with alkali to hydrolyze it.SELECTED DRAWING: None
