To provide a method for sufficiently suppressing the temperature in a hot spot in the production of an unsaturated aldehyde and/or an unsaturated carboxylic acid by a gas-phase catalytic oxidation reaction.
The method for producing an unsaturated aldehyde and/or an unsaturated carboxylic acid comprises: supplying a raw material gas containing propylene, isobutylene, tertiary butanol, methyl tertiary butyl ether or methacrolein as a raw material and molecular oxygen to a catalyst layer containing a solid catalyst prepared in a fixed bed tubular reactor; and subjecting the raw material to a gas-phase catalytic oxidation to produce an unsaturated aldehyde and/or an unsaturated carboxylic acid corresponding to the raw material. The method includes a step of incorporating ammonia by 1 ppm or more and 300 ppm or less into the raw material gas.
