Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a water-soluble cellulose ether having a low polymerization degree with an increased whiteness degree.SOLUTION: A production method of a water-soluble cellulose ether having a low polymerization degree comprises the steps of: contacting an alkali metal hydroxide with a powder pulp having a product of the number average fiber length and the number average fiber width in a kajaani fiber length measuring machine of less than 0.004 mmto obtain an alkali cellulose; reacting the alkali cellulose with an etherifying agent to obtain a crude water-soluble cellulose ether having a high polymerization degree; purifying the crude water-soluble cellulose ether having a high polymerization degree; drying the purified water-soluble cellulose having a high polymerization degree; pulverizing the dried water-soluble cellulose ether having a high polymerization degree to obtain a water-soluble cellulose ether powder having a high polymerization degree; and depolymerizing the water-soluble cellulose ether powder having a high polymerization degree to obtain a water-soluble cellulose ether having a low polymerization degree.
