Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain microbial cellulose useful for medical treatments, bulky materials for foods, tablet-forming materials, etc., by acerobically culturing a specific microorganism belonging to the genus Acetobacter in an aqueous culture medium.
CONSTITUTION: An Acetobacter s.p. strain NCIB 12548 or its mutant is aerobically cultured in an aqueous culture medium containing a carbon source and other essential nutrients. The culture is preferably carried out at an initial pH of 5 at a temperature of 20-28°C.
