To produce monoperoxy acid, easily miscible with a liquid detergent composition in a high yield by reacting a corresponding dicarboxylic acid with a concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an aqueous solution of a strong acid within a specified time and extracting the product.
(A) A corresponding dicarboxylic acid (preferably, pimelic acid, suberic acid, adipic acid, dodecanedioic acid, its alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt or their mixture) is made to react with (B) a concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of (C) an aqueous solution of a strong acid (preferably, an acid having pKa of ≤2, more preferably sulfuric acid, sulfonic acid and/or methanesulfonic acid) within 1hr. The produced monoperoxy acid, or its alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt is obtained by extracting the reaction mixture. The component B contains at least 1.1mol of hydrogen peroxide, preferably at least 1.5mol, more preferably at least 2mol based 1mol of the component A.
